Roblox OA clearance guide: question types + problem-solving ideas | All Pass experience sharing

1,904 Views

Cast Roblox I searched for OA information on the Internet for a long time, and found that their OA is completely different from the traditional HackerRank. The entire evaluation is done on Roblox's own gamification platform, without writing code, relying purely on logical thinking, resource allocation and decision-making abilities. After finishing it, I feel quite fresh, but there are also many pitfalls. This article will write down my experience and ideas to give others a reference.

Roblox OA clearance guide: question types + problem-solving ideas | All Pass experience sharing

Roblox OA basic information

  • Platform:Roblox self-developed gamified recruitment platform
  • Number of questions: 4 Tasks
  • Total duration: Approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes
  • Form:
    • Task 1: Programming skills assessment (50 minutes)
    • Task 2: Problem Solving and Communication Assessment (45 minutes)
    • Task 3: Problem Solving Assessment (25 minutes)
    • Task 4: Decision Making Assessment (20 minutes)

The entire evaluation interface is quite exquisite, but some aspects of the operation are not very smooth. It is recommended to get used to it in advance.

Detailed breakdown of the four tasks

Task 1: Programming skills assessment (50 minutes)

This Task is a traditional algorithm question, similar to LeetCode, but the question package is thicker.

Problems I encountered:

Given an array of strings, we want to count the number of different character pairs. The definition of a character pair is: the length and the sum of the two characters can be obtained by exchanging numbers.

Example:

Input: members = ["xc", "xt1ox", "td2x"]
Output: ["MESSAGE", "0", "*ALL xt1x td1x *", ["OFFLINE", "1", "xt1x"], ["MESSAGE", "2", "xt1xa st1xa"], ...]

Core test points:

  • String handling and parsing
  • Number extraction and comparison
  • Pairing algorithm (like hash table or sorting)

My thoughts:

  1. First extract the numbers in each string
  2. For each string, calculate its length and sum of numbers
  3. Store in hash table (length, sum of numbers) As key
  4. Traverse the array and count the number of the same key
Def count_pairs(members):
    from collections import defaultdict

    def extract_digits(s):
        return [int(c) for c in s if c.isdigit()]

    def get_key(s):
        digits = extract_digits(s)
        return (len(s), sum(digits))

    count_map = defaultdict(int)
    for member in members:
        key = get_key(member)
        count_map[key] += 1

    result = 0
    for count in count_map.values():
        # Number of combinations C(n, 2) = n * (n-1) / 2
        result += count * (count - 1) // 2

    return result

Things to note:

  • Please read the question carefully. The description of the question is relatively long and it is easy to miss details.
  • There are two types of test cases: public and hidden. Pass public first and then optimize.
  • Time complexity is best controlled at O(n log n)

Task 2: Problem Solving and Communication Assessment (45 minutes)

This Task is also an algorithm question, but it focuses more on practical scenarios.

Topic:

Given an array of integers, count the number of different pairs of numbers (i, j) that satisfy the condition: the length of the pair and the sum of the numbers can be obtained by exchanging the numbers.

Core test points:

  • Digit statistics
  • Permutation and combination
  • Hash table optimization

My thoughts:

Similar to Task 1, the key is to find the appropriate key to group.

Def count_distinct_pairs(numbers):
    def get_signature(num):
        # Convert numbers to strings and use them as keys after sorting
        digits = sorted(str(abs(num)))
        length = len(str(abs(num)))
        digit_sum = sum(int(d) for d in str(abs(num)))
        return (length, digit_sum, ''.join(digits))

    from collections import defaultdict
    count_map = defaultdict(int)

    for num in numbers:
        sig = get_signature(num)
        count_map[sig] += 1

    result = 0
    for count in count_map.values():
        result += count * (count - 1) // 2

    return result

Task 3: Problem Solving Assessment (25 minutes)

This Task is a gamified factory simulation, completely different from Tasks 1 and 2.

Question background:

You have to manage a factory and control the production line to produce different products, with the goal of maximizing profits.

Game mechanics:

  • There are multiple production lines, each of which can produce different products.
  • Raw materials are limited and need to be allocated rationally
  • Each product has different selling price and cost
  • Time is limited and quick decisions are needed

My strategy:

  1. Prioritize high-margin products: Let’s first look at which product has the highest profit margin and give priority to production.
  2. Resource balancing: Don’t put all your resources into one production line, as it can easily lead to bottlenecks.
  3. Time management: Production takes time, don’t wait for one product to be finished before starting the next one

Pitfalls:

  • The interface operation is not very smooth. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the button positions first.
  • Some products require multi-step processing, don’t forget the intermediate links
  • Don’t spend the last few minutes buying new equipment and using up the resources you have.

Task 4: Decision Making Assessment (20 minutes)

This Task is a behavioral test that gives you some workplace scenarios and allows you to choose the most effective and least effective response options.

Question format:

Each question gives 4 options, you have to choose:

  • 1 most effective approach
  • 1 most ineffective approach

Core inspection:

  • Teamwork awareness
  • Communication skills
  • Problem solving ideas
  • Professionalism

My suggestion:

There is no standard answer to this part, but Roblox pays more attention to these points:

  • Transparent communication: If you have any questions, just ask them directly, don’t hide them
  • Team first:Personal achievement <Team success
  • User orientation: Prioritize user experience when making decisions
  • Take the initiative to solve: Take the initiative to promote problems when encountering them, don’t wait for others to solve them

For example:

Scenario: Your teammates are behind on their work, affecting the entire project.

Options: A. Report directly to superiors B. Communicate with teammates privately, understand the reasons and provide help C. Work overtime to complete his work D. Point out the problem publicly in team meetings

My choice:

  • Most Effective: B (in line with Roblox’s communication culture)
  • Least effective: D (public criticism is not conducive to team atmosphere)

Test results

After completing the four tasks, the system will give immediate feedback. My result is:All Pass

To be honest, I am quite happy to see this result, especially the algorithm question part. All test cases were passed, including hidden tests. There are no specific scores for the gamification assessment and behavioral test, but judging from the follow-up interview, there should be no problem.

The entire OA took about 2 and a half hours to complete. It is recommended to take a rest after the end. Do not review it immediately, as it may easily affect your mentality. Wait until the next day to review what went well and what can be optimized.
