I just recently completed a complete walk Capital One After the entire interview process for Data Analyst, I finally got the offer successfully. Of the four-wheel back-to-backs at Power Day, it was the two Cases that impressed me the most. Below, I will share with you the complete questions of these two classic Cases, my detailed dismantling ideas, interviewer questioning points, and coping skills without reservation.

Capital One DA/BA Interview Overview
Capital One's interview process includes:
- Coding Signal OA (Excel + SQL highlight)
- HR Call
- Data Challenge (Take-Home, 10 days)
- Power Day(Four rounds back to back: 2 rounds Case + 1 round Presentation + 1 round Behavioral)
Among them, Case Interview and Behavioral are the decisive links, which are highlighted below.
Case 1: Development team capacity bottleneck problem
Question scene We are the data team of an e-commerce platform, including three roles: Coder, Tester and Documenter. The salary is $16/hour. The team can currently produce 1,000 lines of code in two weeks, but a new customer requires an additional 1,000 lines of code to be delivered. It needs to be judged whether the team can withstand this demand.
Problem solving process 1. Uniform units (most critical step) Two weeks = 80 working hours (assuming 40 hours per week). Current Coder production capacity: 1000 lines/80 hours = 12.5 lines/hour.
2. Analysis of total team capacity Calculate the maximum production capacity of the three types of roles respectively, and quickly identify bottlenecks mainly in Coder On the body.
3. Solution discussion
- Overtime plan: 1.5 times overtime pay, flexible control of hours, suitable for short-term needs.
- Recruitment Contractor: Pay the fee in full, suitable for mid- to long-term needs.
4. Break-even analysis Calculate the profit of each line of code for new customers, determine when the cost can be recovered, and then decide which solution is more cost-effective.
Interviewer’s response to follow-up questions
- What if low user quality results in increased rework?
- In the long run, is it better to add people or optimize the process?
Experience This case focuses on unit unification + cost comparison + business proposal capabilities. All data must be converted to the same time unit before analysis can be carried out.
Case 2: Credit card Rewards program analysis (Capital One classic case)
Question scene A company plans to issue a new credit card with Rewards, analyze whether the program is profitable. The interviewer will provide detailed data such as average consumption, APR, Interchange Fee, Default Loss, and operating costs.
Core disassembly framework Revenue per user per year:
- Interchange Fee: Average consumption × 12 × Interchange Rate (example: $500 × 12 × 0.02)
- APR Revenue: Average Balance × APR Rate
- Annual fees and other income
Cost per user per year:
- Rewards Spending
- Default Loss
- Operating costs + customer acquisition costs (CAC)
Calculation result example: Annual net profit per user is approximately $150.
Interviewer’s response to follow-up questions
- Is this program worth rolling out on a large scale? Where are the main risk points?
- If the user quality is low (low consumption, high default rate), will there be a loss?
- Metamorphosis question: What is the minimum annual consumption of a new user to cover all costs (Break-even Point)?
Experience This is a very classic Case from Capital One, with the core being revenue-cost framework + break-even analysis + business recommendations. Proactively clarify missing data (such as retention rate, average balance) and present the results in tabular form to leave a good impression on the interviewer.
